description The Fire Skink is one of the most beautiful skinks in the world. It has a wide gold/brown/tan stripe down it's back with bright red sides interspersed with white and black striped lines along the sides, and black legs.
distribution West africa south to Angola
adult size approx. 10" to 14"
housing
natural habitats This lizard likes plenty of hiding places ( imatation plants)
and lots of climbing branches.
cage It should be at least 2' x 1' cage for a pair. (e.g. Wooden Terrarium, Glass Terrarium)
branch As it is Arboreal, a lot of branches are needed to climb and stay on (e.g. Habba Tree , Sand-Blasted Grapevine)
substrate Soil, moss (e.g. Forest Bed , Forest Moss), barks (e.g. Repti Bark, Coconut Bark)
activity period Daytime (diurnal);
12 - 14 hours each day with direct natural sunlight or UV lamp (e.g. ReptiSun 5.0, UV Heat Bulb)
temperature 28 - 29 ¢XC -- basking spot   (e.g. Basking Spot Lamp)
22 - 25 ¢XC -- cooler area   (e.g. Daylight Blue Bulb)
19 - 22 ¢XC -- at night   (e.g. Nightlight Red Bulb, Infrared Heat Lamp, Ceramic Heat Emitter)
humidity 70 - 85%
water bowl Provide a fairly large, deep bowl for drinking and bathing.
hiding place Place moist sphagnum moss inside of a plastic container with a hole in the top or the side to create a moist burrow.
diet
diet Insectivorous (insects-eating);
various insects and worms
notes Quite a friendly lizard, Will become tame with regular handling. Males can become territorial, Keep separate from other males.
